“The red is symbolic of the blood our troops are spilling over there,” Rivera said. He called for every American who supports the troops to wear something red.

Isn't this like supporting traffic safety? 'Support the troops' is a feel-good 'position' that (nearly) everyone can get behind without offending anyone. Instead of this, all Americans who are against the troops can wear teal on Tuesdays. That way, they'll stand out better in line at the Old Country Buffet.

He said he is excited that now people are coming out and admitting their commitment to the armed forces. He added, for a while it was popular to protest the war, but more people are showing up on the other side now. Wearing red on Fridays would be a way to show support for the troops, he said, which would be a positive thing in contrast to the negativity which has often surrounded the war.

It was truly shameful how Americans failed to support those who fought in WWII; they didn't even bother to wear a certain color on a certain day! In my lifetime, I can remember during the Gulf War, some people didn't tie large yellow ribbons around all the trees in their front yard. It was just awful. I wish someone had worn red to symbolize the blood our troops were shedding, just to bring a positive feeling to the whole fucking nightmare! A little war and spilled blood needn't be surrounded by negativity...
